Dr. Caylor is a family medicine practitioner as well as the founding program director of Samaritan’s family medicine residency program. While she remains clinically active, her primary focus is leading the comprehensive development of the residency program in conjunction with Samaritan leadership and Washington State University. Her responsibilities include creating and overseeing the educational vision and curriculum, accreditation, faculty and resident recruitment, clinical learning experiences, and the systems needed to support residents throughout their training.
Dr. Caylor and her team are developing the residency program with community needs top of mind. She will be working closely with healthcare organizations, community physicians and organizations and regional partners to build in specific skills and training as part of the curriculum. As most residents stay within 100 miles of their residency program, Dr. Caylor is confident that this program will be a sustainable opportunity for Eastern Washington to establish a regional pipeline of excellent primary care physicians.
Family medicine looks at the patient holistically, which is what initially led Dr. Caylor to the specialty. After practicing as a family medicine physician for nine years, she missed the educational aspect of the profession and became a family medicine educator and completed the University of Washington faculty development fellowship. She has spent the last two decades honing her educational skills for both family medicine residents and faculty.
Dr. Caylor completed her medical degree and residency in family medicine at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. She is a board-certified family physician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP).
Originally from Florida, Dr. Caylor and her family lived in Anchorage, Alaska for the past 19 years before moving to Washington. When she isn’t educating physicians, she enjoys spending time with her husband, grown children, and two grandchildren. She enjoys outdoor activities, especially hiking.
