What services are available at the new hospital?

The new Samaritan Hospital features an expanded emergency room, Family Birth Center, medical surgical suites, ICU, and the Paul Lauzier Surgical and Infusion Center.

Other services include Rehabilitation Services, state-of-the-art imaging, laboratory, the Clover Café, and more. The building and grounds are designed to provide a healing environment, with large windows, a chapel, walking paths, outdoor seating and a healing garden.

What is going to happen to old hospital?

When patient care begins at the hospital on March 7, the hospital on Wheeler Road will close to the public.

The land and buildings are currently available for sale.

How much larger is the new hospital?

• The new hospital adds 30,000 square feet of space and is optimized for 21-century healthcare. An expanded emergency department to serve our rapidly growing community with nearly double the number of beds, multiple points of care, and updated technology.
• Five new surgical suites and one expansion-ready area for advanced surgical technology, such as robotic-assisted equipment, as well as 15 pre/post operative rooms and nine post-anesthesia care units.
• An expanded infusion area offers private window-lit bays for treatments and an additional 2 spaces.
• Capable of delivering more than 1,000 births annually, all rooms are LDRP, meaning labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care take place in the same private birthing suite, and Level I nursery supports newborns who need a little extra monitoring, helping families stay close to home.
• Expansion-capable private patient rooms can transition from a standard hospital room to an ICU room with space for families to stay overnight and advanced in-room technology.

Will there be more services offered at the new hospital?

The new hospital brings our nearly 20 service lines under one roof. Outpatient rehabilitation Services is now located in a large, light-filled space on the first floor.
With the additional surgical suites and larger procedure rooms equipped with the latest technology, Samaritan is well positioned to expand the number of specialty providers and surgical services offered to our community.

What did the new hospital cost to build?

The cost of the new hospital is $225 million (inclusive of both infrastructure and equipment), with an additional $5 million in financing costs, bringing the total cost for the project to $230 million.

In early 2023, the board of commissioners proposed a $130 million bond to support project costs for a new, state-of-the-art facility on a 55-acre piece of land. That April, the community voiced their support, voting 65.98% in favor of the bond.

An additional $13.9 million in local, state, and federal grants was also secured.

The Samaritan Foundation raised over $3 million to support the cost of the project.

The total project is funded by 2.25% USDA low-interest loan.
