David Hughes is a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) at Samaritan, administering anesthesia to patients for surgeries and pain management.

Growing up in Canada, David became interested in medicine as a child after his father underwent open heart surgery. He completed nursing school and practiced as a registered nurse (RN) for nearly 25 years, gaining experience in acute care, telemetry, ICU, cardiac intensive care, and critical care transport.

He continued his education with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and later earned his CRNA certification at Lordes University in Ohio, licensing him as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) specializing in anesthesia. David enjoys being a CRNA for a simple reason — he likes helping people feel better. Knowing that anesthesia blocks keep patients at ease and comfortable during procedures keeps him passionate about his work.

When he isn’t caring for patients, David enjoys spending time with his wife — whom he calls his best friend — as well as his three adult children and four grandkids.
